A concoction of threads
What started off as a project to have a simple warp made out of cotton and playing around in the weft was soon taking a different direction. Normal is boring, isn’t it? A plain white 20/2 cotton warp on a Rigid Heddle loom. About to be wound onto the back beam.
Wait… aren’t we supposed to have some fun? Take a 100% linen yarn and add it to some slots randomly… ha.. looks good. Why not add a few strands of DK-weight cotton to give it a ‘texture’. Ok. There it goes. What else? Why not add every yarn in sight? A few strands of merino wool, thick & thin Silk yarn, cotton chenille yarn, merino boucle…
The warp is already looking happy… but can be better. Why not add a few strands of the handspun cotton gimp yarn which has been lying on the tray…. Now, the warp looks really happy! Wind it and start weaving.
Yes, weaving is going to be a challenge because every yarn has a different ‘give’ and elasticity, but then aren’t we cut out for taking such exciting challenges?
Off the loom… the scarf is ok but not dramatic. But then, soak it in hot water for an hour and take it out. Wow! Giving us goose-bumps with its magical bumps! Try it out, you will be pleasantly surprised.
