Kanjeevaram korvai weaving with Rigid Heddle hobby loom

Kanjeevaram silks are characterized by the temple border motif and “thazhampoo rekku” (fragrant screw pine flower in Tamil language). Typically used in the saree borders, these are the quintessential details in the lovely Kanjeevaram sarees. The technique for creating these motifs is called ‘korvai’, translating to ‘interlocking’.

These motifs can be woven on Rigid Heddle looms as well. We conduct workshops on ‘korvai’ weaving for Rigid Heddle loom owners. Call us to register for the next workshop on ‘korvai’ weaving, it is a sweet 3 hour workshop where you learn to make these motifs!
